Events

Melbourne and Victoria's rich Aboriginal history offers a wealth of Aboriginal cultural experiences.

Throughout the year, cultural centres such as Melbourne's Koorie Heritage Trust, Melbourne Museum's Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre and the Brambuk Aboriginal Cultural Centre provide visitors with excellent exhibitions, workshops and tours. Music and theatre performances are brought to audiences from arts companies including ILBIJERRI Theatre Company, Short Black Opera and Bangarra Dance Theatre, and Aboriginal art exhibitions are on display in galleries across Melbourne and Victoria.

In summer, the Melbourne Indigenous Arts Festival celebrates Aboriginal arts with an inspiraing program of exhibitions, talks, films, dance, cabaret and live music, and the Yalukit Wilum Ngaree: People Place Gathering sees St Kilda Festival launch with a deadly program of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander music and arts. For sports fans, May's "Dreamtime at the 'G" is a football event not to be missed.

See below to discover the diversity of events in Melbourne and Victoria celebrating the world's oldest living culture.
