Snowboarding

Whether you're a novice or a weekend hero, you'll find plenty of places to cut up the slopes and practice your jumps all across Victoria's snowfields. From downhill runs, half-pipes and terrain parks to back country exploring, there's no end of thrills to be had.

Up, down and around
The big three Alpine resorts of Falls Creek, Hotham and Mt Buller together boast a staggering 250 downhill runs across 50 lifts. 10 terrain parks also provide plenty of rollers, berms, rails and jumps to keep you in the air and pumped up.

Beginners can learn the ropes on Falls Creek Fox Trail and the Basil Rail Park in Hotham. For the experts, there's the Ruined Castle Expert Park in Falls Creek and The Boardercross Course in Hotham, which is built to World Cup standard. Mt Baw Baw's two terrain parks are also a great playground for freestyle boarders and a less intimidating place to practice.

Snowboarding lessons and skills programs for beginners right through to advanced riders are available at Falls Creek, Hotham, Mt Buller and Mt Baw Baw. Equipment hire is also available on the mountain.

Back country
For a dose of back country excitement, head across to Mt Stirling, just 30 minutes' drive from Mt Buller. Intermediate and advanced boarders can trek to the summit and Stanley Bowl area to make the most of the resort's untouched terrain. Ascend and descend via Bluff Spur Trail or Howqua Gap Trail.

Safety
The Australian Ski Areas Association recommends the use of helmets for riding, and encourages education on the benefits and limitations of helmet usage.
