Canoeing & kayaking
See Victoria's rivers, lakes and remote areas of wilderness that are not accessible by road or foot, from a canoe or kayak. Explore scenic waterways and rapids, most of which are graded according to their level of difficulty.
Melbourne's Yarra River offers opportunities for hitting the water, or venture further to the Nagambie Lakes in the Goulburn Valley, the Barwon River out of Geelong and Lake Windouree at Ballarat. The Murray River is another great canoeing destination, while the Glenelg River is recommended for a longer paddle.
Sea kayaking is also a popular pastime, or you can join a guided white water rafting trip with a local company. If you’re after an adrenalin rush, head to the Snowy, Thompson, Mitchell and Mitta Mitta rivers in Victoria's High Country.
