Touring the Murray
Leg 3: Swan Hill to Mildura
264km / 165 miles, about 3.25 hr
The journey from Swan Hill to Mildura takes you from river bushland to a stunning desert environment.
Mildura is an oasis beside the magnificent Murray. Stroll along the riverbanks, or fish, water ski or cruise its wide waters on an historic paddle steamer. The Murray provides a stunning backdrop to restaurants and wineries, including Stefano's restaurant, famous for its use of the best local produce.
With seemingly perennial sunshine, Mildura is a popular destination for outdoor dining, relaxing in the sun, a round of golf on one of the fine local courses, or joining one of the annual celebrations, such as the Jazz, Food & Wine Festival in November.
The Murray-Sunset National Park is a stunning park comprising four distinct wilderness zones - billabongs near the Murray River, native pine woodlands, red sand dunes and saltbush flats. See seasonal wildflowers, abundant bird life, red kangaroos, breathtaking sunsets, and the Pink Lakes, which turn a vivid colour in late summer.
