Episode 14: Cooking schools
This week on Postcards, the team checks out what is on offer at some of Victoria's best cooking schools. Glen heads to the Yarra Valley to visit the beautiful Yering Station where Eleonore's Restaurant's Executive Chef, Mathew Macartney teaches him some culinary tricks. Down in Murrumbeena, Brodie learns to bake from the best in the business; Alison Thompson at the on-site kitchen above Oasis Bakery. Lauren catches up with Tonia Todman at her Highbank home, where she learns all about the cooking and craft classes she has on offer. Lastly, Rebecca makes her way to stunning Daylesford where legendary Alla Wolf-Tasker AM shows her why the Lake House Restaurant has remained an award winning venue for so long.
Chateau Yering is an award winning historic homestead in the Yarra Valley and considered one of the most luxurious places to stay in the area. The accommodation at Chateau Yering dates back to the 1800s but the homestead was reborn in 1997 after receiving extensive renovations, with many of the 32 luxurious suites offering spectacular views of the 250 acre property. Guests are invited to enjoy a cooking demonstration in style with Eleonore's Restaurant's Executive Chef, Mathew Macartney. Mathew will put you straight to work, guiding you through some of the techniques he uses in the kitchen as well as sending you home with a signed recipe booklet. Mathew and his team at Eleonore's work tirelessly in the kitchen to produce the best meals possible, which explains why the restaurant is so renowned for its sophisticated dining. The Sweetwater Café is also located onsite and open from dawn to dusk each day.

Oasis Bakery, located in Murrumbeena, houses a Middle Eastern bakery, a café, a grocery store and a cooking school all on one site, providing visitors with everything they need to create their next culinary sensation. Middle Eastern cooking demonstrations are run on a regular basis in the well-equipped kitchen. Renowned chef, Alison Thompson also uses the kitchen to run a baking class and a dessert making class of her own, which can be booked via her website. Alison has been passionate about baking since she was seven years old, and throughout her career has created countless culinary delights in various world-class kitchens. She now enjoys working as a consultant pastry chef and cookbook author, with her latest work 'SWEET' recently hitting shelves.

Historic Highbank is a beautifully restored and renovated property owned by the queen of craft, Tonia Todman. Tonia has truly outdone herself with this property, converting an historic 160 year old bluestone home into a B&B and a cooking school. Accommodation on the property includes Highbank's historic stables and the Tack Room, which has been designed especially for couples. It has modern Australian décor and offers every luxury and comfort needed for a relaxing stay. All up, the B&B can accommodate five or six people, which is the perfect number for one of Tonia's cooking classes. Tonia offers a range of cooking classes at Highbank at a cost of $110 for a full day class. Usual classes are held for groups of three or more people, with a preferred maximum of eight people.

Lake House Daylesford is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Thirty years on and people still travel from all over Australia and around the world to experience the joy of a meal at the Lake House, and stay in its luxurious accommodation. It's also now home to several masterclasses throughout the year, and the purpose built cooking school hosts a range of chefs for demonstrations and workshops, many of which are run by Lake House Co-Owner and Culinary Director, Alla Wolf-Tasker AM.
