Episode 22: General show
As the winter weather sets in, we often succumb to the temptation of rugging up on the couch night after night during the chilly season. However this week on Postcards, the team brace the cold and discover that there are spots in Melbourne and along the Mornington Peninsula that really are worth throwing the doona off for! Rebecca Judd checks out 'Monet’s Garden' exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria, before settling in for a French inspired lunch at 'France-Soir'. Lauren Phillips is joined by special guest and Great Australian Bake Off judge Dan Lepard, and the pair goes on a tasty tour through Melbourne's CBD, stopping at Cumulus Inc., La Belle Miette and The Essential Ingredient. Glen Moriarty travels to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula and samples some scrumptious dishes at The Counting House Restaurant, before making his way down the road to Mount Martha where he kicks back at the stunning 'View Grande' – beachside accommodation at its luxurious best.
Monet's Garden at The National Gallery of Victoria and France-Soir
The National Gallery of Victoria is currently home to 'Monet's Garden', an exhibition devoted to Claude Monet's iconic garden at Giverny. Claude Monet, one of the most famous artists of his generation, painted the effects of light with broken colour and rapid brush strokes to create the style which was to become impressionism. A highlight of the NGV exhibition is the famous water lily series he painted of the gardens at his the rural property in Northern France.
After your morning of Monet, why not make it a French inspired day and visit France-Soir for lunch? This classic French brasserie has been serving up a little slice of Paris on Toorak Road in South Yarra for nearly 30 years. On the menu you'll find all of the classics from escargot in garlic butter to half roasted duckling served with orange sauce to hearty Boeuf Bourguignon.

Great Australian Bake Off, Cumulus Inc., La Belle Miette and The Essential Ingredient
'The Great Australian Bake Off' is the search to find Australia's best home baker, and ten home baking enthusiasts are already going through a series of gruelling elimination challenges. One of the judges of the show, Dan Lepard, recommends some of his favourite Melbourne hangouts below, starting with Cumulus Inc. in Flinders Lane.
Cumulus Inc. opened in 2008 in a historic turn of the century rag trade building. The space is a busy social hub that opens throughout the day seven days a week, offering Andrew McConnell's acclaimed food.
Another favourite is La Belle Miette in Hardware Lane, a French patisserie specialising in macarons. The team only use the very best ingredients to make their many flavoured macarons, and they are indeed, La Belle Miette – beautiful small things.
Dan also loves The Essential Ingredient in South Yarra. This is where you'll find quality foods, professional grade cookware and upstairs there's a cooking school. The Essential Ingredient's cooking school teaches a wide range of cuisines, skills and caters for all experience levels.
