Episode 27: 18 August

This week on Postcards, the team disperse across the state to discover quaint rural getaways, scrumptious eateries and a shopping strip that will impress even the most fastidious shopper! After planning what to do and where to shop along High Street in Prahran, Rebecca Judd firstly made a beeline for Fenton & Fenton where she eyes off all of the gorgeous home furnishings and artefacts on offer. Next she stops at Spoonful where she indulges in some scrumptious baked goods and a well-earned coffee, followed by Kate Hill Flowers where she admires the fresh, vibrant, premium quality flora. Finally, Rebecca visits Petit Atelier, a cute little studio that hosts arts and crafts workshops for children, and stocks a gorgeous range of party supplies. Brodie Harper takes a road trip to the north west of Victoria and stumbles upon the perfect cottage getaway 'Villa Reanda' before hunting down antique treasures at Station Antiques and Café in Maryborough. Finally, Glen Moriarty visits the country town of Creswick and stops by Le Peche Gourmand – a French patisserie boulangerie where he has his fill of baguettes, tarts and macarons, before putting his feet up at Morgantis, a recently renovated property on the outskirts of Daylesford.

High Street Prahran: Fenton & Fenton, Spoonful, Kate Hill Flowers and Petit Atelier
Fenton & Fenton can be found on High Street in Prahran, not far from Williams Road. It's full of eclectic and unusual home furnishings and artefacts collected by the owner on her travels around the world. The range at Fenton & Fenton reflects the owner's bold and adventurous spirit and expresses a style that dares to mix and match objects, origins and eras. The items sourced are unique, and you can even order bespoke furnishings and custom made rugs.

When it's time for a break from all that hardcore retail therapy, 'Spoonful' fits the bill perfectly as it's only down the road and you can usually find a spot at the welcoming communal table. The team at Spoonful focus on seasonal produce so the menu changes frequently, but what doesn't change is the high quality fare and the fact that delectable desserts such as meringue roulade are always on hand.

A couple of doors down from Spoonful is beautiful Kate Hill Flowers where the freshest, premium quality flowers are transformed into works of floral art. And while the owner admits that her first love is creating high style wedding flowers, she also makes unforgettable bouquets and arrangements for any occasion.

Another stop that must be made along High Street is at Petit Atelier, a little studio that hosts arts and crafts workshops. In this space, children can make everything from jewellery and hair clips to robots and rockets in a friendly and playful environment. Petit Atelier also hosts children's birthday parties in its party room, which can be themed and set up using the best quality party supplies and decorations. The team also put on 'Mummy and Me' workshops for children from two and a half to five years of age.

Villa Reanda and Maryborough Station Antiques
If you're in desperate need of some R'n'R and feel that an escape to the country is exactly what the doctor has ordered, then go no further than the gorgeous Villa Reanda in Carisbrook, which is only a couple of hours north west of Melbourne. The beautiful faded pink walls date back to the 1850s when it was originally used as a butcher's shop and the huge shop windows dominate what is now a spacious sitting room. The house sleeps up to eight in three double bedrooms and a twin, each adorned with lovely linens and unique furnishings. There is also a bathroom with a luxurious claw-foot bath. The cottage also boasts a gorgeous provincial kitchen, which comes equipped with a hamper of gourmet goodies for breakfast and a few recipe ideas written up on the blackboard.

Once you've relaxed for a few days and you're keen to do something other than eat and sleep, head to the nearby town of Maryborough and check out Maryborough Station Antiques. The once booming goldfield town of Maryborough was forever graced with this piece of impressive architecture when the station was constructed in 1890. The station is believed to have the longest platform in country Victoria and has a highly polished timber ceiling, a tessellated floor in the main entrance and now houses thousands of collectables in the Antiques Emporium. You'll find everything from tableware to a stunning range of jewellery and vintage manchester. After you've finished admiring the antique treasures, why not treat yourself to a bite to eat at the Maryborough Station Café. The ornate fireplace ensures it's always toasty inside for you to enjoy breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea. Maryborough Station Antiques and Café is open every day except Tuesdays.

Le Peche Gourmand and Morgantis
The town of Creswick sits right between the city of Ballarat and Daylesford. One drawcard to this town in the heart of the Goldfields is the authentic French patisserie Le Peche Gourmand. This delectable gem is not something you'd expect to find in country Victoria, but it is a welcome addition to the area due to the range of freshly baked French treats it offers such as macarons, baguettes, tarts and gateau. The boulangerie patisserie has already picked up a Golden Plate award, so why not do as the French do and try a little bit of everything whilst sipping your tea or hot chocolate in front of the fire.

If you're looking for somewhere to stay whilst on your rural adventure, go no further than Morgantis, an 1860s cottage situated on the outskirts of Daylesford. This stunning property offers a relaxed country setting and has recently undergone a massive renovation so provides everything you need to feel right at home. This getaway has four bedrooms, plenty of space for lounging around, a full kitchen plus a fantastic outdoor entertaining area with a wood fired pizza oven. Catering is also available if you'd like a local chef to come in and tantalise your taste buds. The finishing touches are being added to another cottage on the property so it won't be long before this home away from home can cater for even larger groups or multiple families.
