Episode 06: Summer series
On this week's episode of Postcards Summer Series, Rebecca Judd explores High Street in Prahran where she makes a beeline for 'Fenton & Fenton' to eye off all of the gorgeous home furnishings and artefacts on offer. Next she stops at 'Spoonful' where she indulges in some scrumptious baked goods, followed by 'Kate Hill Flowers' and then 'Petit Atelier', a cute little studio that hosts arts and crafts workshops for children. She also weaves her way through the CBD to seek out the unique Ovolo Hotel, before treating herself to some delicious fare at Pei Modern. Brodie Harper travels to Emerald where she takes a tour of 'The Little White House' – a cottage perfect for couples, and 'The General Food Store' which serves up delicious brunch and lunch dishes. Finally, Shane Crawford ventures to 'Basia Mille' in Waratah North to admire the luxury apartments, vineyard and olive grove on the property, before strolling over to Waratah Hills Vineyard for a taste of their renowned cool climate wines.
High Street Prahran, Fenton & Fenton, Spoonful and Petit Atelier
Fenton & Fenton can be found on High Street in Prahran, not far from Williams Road. It's full of eclectic and unusual home furnishings and artefacts collected by the owner on her travels around the world. The range at Fenton & Fenton reflects the owner's bold and adventurous spirit and expresses a style that dares to mix and match objects, origins and eras. The items sourced are unique, and you can even order bespoke furnishings and custom made rugs.
When it's time for a break from all that hardcore retail therapy, 'Spoonful' fits the bill perfectly as it's only down the road and you can usually find a spot at the welcoming communal table. The team at Spoonful focus on seasonal produce so the menu changes frequently, but what doesn't change is the high quality fare and the fact that delectable desserts such as meringue roulade are always on hand.
A couple of doors down from Spoonful is beautiful Kate Hill Flowers, where the freshest, premium quality flowers are transformed into works of floral art. And while the owner admits that her first love is creating high style wedding flowers, she also makes unforgettable bouquets and arrangements for any occasion.
Another stop that must be made along High Street is at Petit Atelier, a little studio that hosts arts and crafts workshops. In this space, children can make everything from jewellery and hair clips to robots and rockets in a friendly and playful environment. Petit Atelier also hosts children's birthday parties in its party room, which can be themed and set up using the best quality party supplies and decorations. The team also put on 'Mummy and Me' workshops for children from two and a half to five years of age.

The Little White House and The General Food Store, Emerald
Located in the quaint hills of the Dandenong Ranges, The Little White House is a couples retreat less than an hour from the city. Situated in Emerald, the one bedroom cottage exudes contemporary luxury and traditional elegance with its high ceilings and white walls. The deluxe double bath is the main feature of the generously sized ensuite and there's a fully equipped kitchen to cook up a delicious breakfast.
If cooking on holidays isn't your style, then why not treat yourself to a meal at the nearby General Food Store in Emerald. The General Food Store is a breath of fresh air for foodies in the hills who demand good coffee and quality café food. Although it may be small in size, the menu really packs a punch with favourites like the Arabesque, which comes with poached eggs, grilled halloumi, house made beetroot relish, hazelnut dukkah and spinach on sourdough. Another one of their hits is the Sultan's Swing – it's a traditional lamb shoulder and prune tagine, served with a simple salad of fennel, pomegranate seeds and mint.
One of the most popular things to do when visiting the Dandenongs is taking a ride on Victoria's most famous stream rain, the Puffing Billy. It stops off at Emerald Lake Park, which is another great attraction in the region. Emerald Lake Park is a beautiful spot to take a stroll, have a picnic or even hire one of their paddle boats!

Pei Modern and Ovolo Hotel
Pei Modern is a restaurant that's both hidden away and in plain sight. You'll find it right by the Sofitel Hotel, just off Collins Street in the city. Inside there's a Scandinavian aesthetic of pale, crisp furnishings and plenty of woodwork. The restaurant moves from a bar area with its own menu through to a comfortably designed main room and there's a generous outside terrace as well. The food is technically perfect and the simplicity of the exemplary produce speaks for itself.
Another Melbourne newcomer is the Ovolo Hotel on Little Bourke Street. It has been designed and inspired by the hidden laneways and gems that Melbourne is known for and offers effortless living without being far away from the action of the city. The Ovolo Hotel Melbourne has original artworks, luxurious bathrooms, quality furnishings and the occasional quirky touch to keep things interesting. There's a range of room types on offer, with everything from a brightly decorated studio to a spacious two bedroom penthouse with a terrace and a spa.
