Something wicked this way comes to the Wick in September.

Too many peas, a little bloody murder, cabaret songs political and a comedic carnival atmosphere are all features of Creswick Theatre Company’s next production, Woyzeck at the Cabaret Brecht Bar.

After a successful season with Trial By By Beckett, director Tim Drylie revisits the avant-garde theatre tradition with this latest production. This time round, however, we find the uncanny alliance between German theatrical heavy weights Bertolt Brecht and Georg Büchner.

Set in a 1920’s whisky bar (yes, drinks are available at bar prices) the show entwines an entertaining cabaret style with the distinctly more serious and estranging political aesthetic of Brecht’s Epic theatre and Georg Büchner’s masterful social commentary in his fragmentary 1830’s play, Woyzeck.

The show will be a multi-faceted community smorgasbord of mirthful delights and unexpected moments of wickedness. It will feature seasoned local Creswick thespians, musicians, songsters, artists and volunteers such as Bruce Kronberger, Amie Brûlée, Jenni Sewell, Steve Ambrose, Holly Sewell, David Mellows and Tim Drylie.
