Welcome, skip to the content.

In May 2014, from You Yangs mountain top to Barwon River mouth, a contemporary songline was walked across Geelong in what has now become a biennial pilgrimage. Water from the ancient rock waterhole at Big Rock, and fire from the traditional smoking ceremony are carried in an ephemeral Canoe. The journey finishes at Barwon Heads where the Canoe is set alight.

Canoe has been re-fabricated to create a lasting public sculpture for all park visitors. Celebrate Canoe’s journey and join us for this rare opportunity to experience Big Rock at dusk. Celebrate our connection to land with activities including ochre sand patterning, artists at work, astronomers, native plant propagation, dance, illuminated artworks and music.

Bring your own picnic, water, torch and walking shoes. This is an all-weather event. Coffee and snacks will be available to purchase. Parking will be unavailable at Big Rock car park - please allow 30 minutes to walk up or catch the free shuttle bus from the lower You Yangs carpark.
