Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, an annual celebration that signifies the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and hope over despair. It is a joyful milestone celebrated by Indian people across the world irrespective of their culture or religion. Diwali represents new beginnings and is a time to come together and experience a moment of rejuvenation and good fortune.Diwali is one of the highlights of the Deakin calendar and we have celebrated it for the past 9 years. In 2017, it will be celebrated on Friday 20 October. Official celebrations will take place at the Geelong Waterfront Campus and will include special cultural performances, food and market stalls and will culminate in a spectacular fireworks display on the Geelong Waterfront.5:30pm - 7:00pm - Cultural performances in Costa Hall, Deakin University.7:00pm - 8:45 pm - Diwali festivities including music, Indian market stalls showcasing delicious food, jewellery, Sari's, henna tattoo, children's activities and more in the John Hay Courtyard, Level 2 Gallery and Waterfront Kitchen, Deakin University.8:45pm - Fireworks display on the Geelong Waterfront.This event is a free public event, please register as seats are limited.
