Gippsland Lakes Discovery Trail
Bairnsdale to Lakes Entrance
This trail starts near Bruthen at Seaton Track and travels through the Colquhoun State Forest to Lakes Entrance. There are a number of ways to ride it, ranging from a long ride following the East Gippsland Rail Trail from Bairnsdale to a short family-friendly from Log Crossing to the Mississippi Creek Quarry and back.
Distance: 65 km one way, Bairnsdale–Lakes Entrance
36 km one way, Bruthen–Lakes Entrance
13.7 km return, Lakes Entrance–Log Crossing
15 km return, Log Crossing–Mississippi Creek Quarry
Track: Generally smooth dirt or gravel track with some rough dirt sections
Grade: Level 2–3. Level 2 – Suitable for most ages and fitness levels, some riding experience recommended. Level 3 – Challenging rides requiring experience and a good level of fitness.
Start: Bairnsdale, Bruthen or Log Crossing
Finish: Lakes Entrance or Mississippi Creek Quarry
Note: This track is only suitable for mountain bikes and some hybrids
Getting there: Travel via Monash Freeway (M1) and Princes Highway (A1) to Bairnsdale (280 km east of Melbourne), Bruthen (306km), Log Crossing (312km) or Lake Entrance (318km).
