Grade: Easy. Four-wheel drive only.
Distance: 62 kilometres
Duration: Half day
Travel through far east Gippsland's open forests of white and red stringybark to the Gallery Rainforest and its tunnel-like tree canopies.
Start out at the picnic area on the scenic Cann River at Chandlers Creek and make your way along the WB Line Road to the cascading Beehive Falls. Fitter four-wheel drivers will rise to the challenge of tackling the three-hour one-way walk to Genoa River along the Yambulla Walking Track. Alternatively, continue onto Mealing Hill for striking views of the surrounding area. Stop for refreshments at Hidden picnic area, on the Wingan River West Branch.
A further 20 kilometres takes you to Drummer Rainforest picnic area where you can take an easy walk along the moss-lined track through rainforest over the tranquil Thurra River. Lining the banks of the Thurra River is Gallery Rainforest, where twisted trunks of Kanooka draped in lichen overhang the river creating a 'tunnel-like’' gallery.
Warnings: Log truck traffic.
