Potato gelato, potato gnocchi with lamb Ragu, Japanese potato pancakes, and bangers and mash are carb-loaded tasters of what spud enthusiasts can expect at the inaugural Ballarat Potato Festival.

Held in the historic Ballarat Mining Exchange on Saturday 1 July, the one-day event will showcase local potatoes in a variety of starchy deliciousness by Ballarat’s prized eateries.

The event will boast a menu including hand-forged potato and Parmesan gnocchi in rich winter-warming lamb Ragu with Grana Padano, baby spinach and crisp potato crumb; Russet potato string-wrapped Australian king prawns; Austrian Grostl, a hunger stopping fry-up with fried potatoes, onion, bacon, and sour cream; and Japanese potato pancakes.

The festival will also serve up some more classic options including traditional baked potatoes, hot chips with gravy, samosas and the old-time favourite - house-made sausages and potatoes.

A selection of sweet treats will also entice festival-goers with sweet potato chocolate brownies and potato gelato amongst the dessert offerings. Each of the festival’s participating eateries will have their potatoes supplied by one of the region’s largest potato farms, Mount Prospect Produce.
