Cycling & mountain biking

Explore the Grampians region's hard-to-reach nooks and crannies on two wheels, with plenty of shady bike paths for those seeking gentle cycles, or invigorating mountain bike adventures through the national park by night.

Cycling
Fasten your helmet and cycle along designated paths that wind past cellar doors, lavender farms or olive groves.

Cruise alongside Lake Hamilton and the Wimmera River, along the valley floor at Halls Gap, and through the main streets of Dunkeld, Moonambel and other towns and villages across the region.

Hire a bike from the Avoca Visitor Information Centre and take a cycling tour of the local wineries and cellar doors.

Ride through Grampians National Park then take a short walk to a range of lookouts atop ancient volcanoes, mountain peaks or waterfalls.

Kit out the whole family with their own wheels and take the bike path between Halls Gap and Brambuk - The National Park and Cultural Centre. Or make your way along the scenic Natimuk – Mt Arapiles rail trail, a 10-kilometre off-road recreational trail linking Natimuk to Mount Arapiles.

Road cyclists seeking more energetic pursuits should hit the great regional loops between Halls Gap, Stawell, Ararat and Great Western.

Mountain biking
Not all the challenges in the Grampians are uphill. Make the most of the region's narrow bush trails for some exhilarating mountain biking.

Combine the thrill of freewheeling with a short walk and study of environmental features. Tracks provide various grades and terrains for all skill levels and are suitable for mountain and hybrid bikes.

Try a night bike ride to see the nocturnal animals that inhabit the park. Follow an experienced guide through the beautiful Grampians countryside under a star-filled night sky for an unforgettable experience.

Pit your skills against other enthusiasts in a range of dedicated mountain biking events that take advantage of the single track sections through the mountainous terrain in the Pyrenees area.

Hire bikes or bring your own and go exploring at your own pace. Contact Brambuk – The National Park and Cultural Centre at Halls Gap or at any of the local visitor information centres for tips on local tracks and trails.
