Kalimna Falls Trail
Address: Great Otway National Park, Allenvale Road, Lorne, Victoria 3232
This gentle walk traces the route of an old timber tramway. Look out for some of the original sleepers used to build it along the way. From the picnic area the path winds through a picturesque creek valley that is lined with lush ferns and towering blue gums to Lower Kalimna Falls. It's an idyllic spot for a picnic beside the falls that plunge over an undercut rock ledge into a tranquil fern-fringed pool. Continue on to Upper Kalimna Falls, where dense tree ferns frame the 15-metre falls as they cascade down the steep rock face onto mossy boulders below.
From Upper Kalimna Falls you can return along the same path, past the lower falls to a bridge over the river onto a link track high above the river with excellent vistas. Alternatively, turn onto the four-wheel drive Garvey Track, which follows a ridge line back to the picnic area.
