Canoeing & kayaking

Paddle out to sea on a kayak and explore the Great Ocean Road region from bays and ocean waves or take a canoe on the lakes, rivers and estuaries.

For some of Australia's finest flat water canoeing, make a trip up the coast to the Glenelg River near Nelson. The river offers striking scenery from upriver snags, through rolling bush land and ancient gorges to the sweeping estuary, with well maintained campsites every 5–10 kilometres for those wanting to camp out. Stop in at Lake Colac, one of south-west Victoria's water sport hubs, for a range of activities including boating, rowing, yachting, water-skiing and windsurfing. Go canoeing on Lake Bullen Merri or Lake Gnotuk for pristine scenery.

Get your adrenaline pumping on top a sea kayak in the region's sheltered bays or the waves of the rugged shorelines. Hire from one of the tour operators at Anglesea, Lorne and Apollo Bay that cater for all levels of experience, skills and adventure tastes and offer lessons as well as tours.

Kayak to seal colonies
Combine a love of the water with a love of wildlife on a seal kayaking tour. Join a group and paddle out from the coast to a seal colony. Watch as they tumble around in the waves and sun themselves on the rocks. If you're lucky they'll even swim over to say hello. Available to beginners and experienced kayakers alike.
