Great Ocean Road getaway
Your first stop along the winding Great Ocean Road is Lorne. Stroll along the pier and get to know the town's Mediterranean feel and charming scenery. Browse boutique gift stores, cellars, tempting eateries and eclectic galleries. Set aside an hour or so for an easy walk to the spectacular Sheoak Falls and look for nesting birds in Swallow Cave.
Grab a seat right on the sandy beach of the Erskine River mouth and tuck into lunch at Swing Bridge Cafe, at the foot of the iconic suspension 'swing bridge'.
After lunch it's time to make your way from Lorne to Apollo Bay. The short drive will take longer than you think as you'll be powerless to resist the opportunities to take in the breathtaking views of this spectacular section of the road. Grab a snack at Wye River or Kennett River, where you can also spy resident koalas and king parrots.
You'll be ready for a delicious meal of locally caught seafood or fresh regional produce when you reach Apollo Bay, where you'll stay overnight.
