Mountain biking
Break out the trusty steed, load up the car with high-energy snacks and explore the hills, valleys, mountains and rivers of Victoria's spectacular High Country on a mountain biking trip. Settle on an itinerary before you leave or just make it up as you go along. From Mount Buller, Falls Creek and Beechworth to Bright and Mount Beauty, there's plenty to keep the blood pumping and the heart racing all across the region.
Do the Dirty Dozen
Bring your wheels and try out the new tracks and improvements to existing Dirty Dozen trails. Head on up to Mount Buller to test your mettle on the new Copperhead Trail, a 2012 addition to the High Country catalogue and a heady mix of beginner's downhill and cross country action. You won't find many places in the world with such stunning scenery so take the plunge and find out what keeps the locals excited and visiting riders coming back for more.
Race down, get a lift up
For an adrenalin-pumping adventure on a full-suspension mountain bike, follow the tracks around the Horse Hill Chairlift on Mount Buller, from easy terrain to the 'Abominable Downhill' track that crosses Chalet Creek. There's even a chairlift to take you back up to the top during the summer months.
During peak summer holiday times and over the Easter break make use of the chairlift for easy access to tracks at Falls Creek and Mount Hotham. Alternatively, go further afield to Mount Beauty and the Bogong High Plains.
For detailed information on tracks, pick up a map from a local visitor information centre or get in touch with one of the mountain bike tour operators.
