Rutherglen's Muscat Trail comprises quiet back roads and tracks used by cyclists to explore the historic wine region and sample the renowned Rutherglen muscats.
Ten wineries are included on the route, including many that have been family owned for over 100 years. Tastings and sales are offered in historic surroundings with robust reds and fresh whites as well as a large selection of fortified wines such as muscat and tokay.
Take the time to enjoy the charming rural landscape. Lightly trafficked and flat roads lead to carefully tended vineyards, historic wineries and neat paddocks of cereal crops. Forming a natural boundary, the Murray River meanders past stands of river red gums and secluded billabongs and provides shady natural picnic spots for resting along the way.The Rutherglen Wine Experience & Visitor Information Centre is a good place to start, providing maps and bikes for hire. Or you could embark on your trip from any of the participating wineries, and visit any combination of vineyards. The distinctive Muscat Trail diamond-shaped signs line the roads approximately every 400 metres and ensure that the trail is easy to follow, with all the corners marked by direction arrows.
