Welcome, skip to the content.

Join vigneron, fisherman and bushwalker David Ritchie for a four-hour guided gourmet walk in the Alpine National Park. The six kilometre return hike starts at 8 Mile Flat and follows the Howqua River to Ritchie’s Hut, originally built as a fisherman’s hut for Bob Ritchie (David’s grandad) in the 1950s.

Hiking through the narrow river valley and ancient forests, steal glimpses of Mt Buller’s ski runs and be rewarded with a bird’s eye view of the pristine Howqua River - plus freshly made scones and billy tea. Back at 8 Mile Flat, cool your heels by the river over a barbecue lunch of local Howes Creek Farm sausages and gourmet salads, washed down with a glass or two of Delatite wine.

This hike requires a reasonable level of fitness and agility as there may be low river crossings on the track. In the event of wet weather, the event will be relocated to Delatite Wines for a behind-the-scenes wine experience with morning tea and lunch.

Part of the 2018 High Country Harvest.
