Memories of Alpine Rallies of old will be unearthed in September when the popular Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint returns to the forests around Bright in North East Victoria.

The event has not been conducted since 2013, but with the roads to be used now in better condition than in years past, entries are expected to fill fast.

The Mount Porepunkah Rally sprint will be the first round of the recently-announced Riverina North East Victoria Rally sprint Challenge, and will be held on September 9.

Based on the Back Porepunkah Road, just out of Bright, the event will feature two stages of eight kilometres in length, travelling up Mt Porepunkah and down the other side.

Two runs of each stage in the morning will be followed by a further two runs in the afternoon, running in the other direction.

Competitors are able to pace note the course via a controlled, one pass reconnaissance early on Saturday morning.
