Short Black Opera for Kids is a program designed for Indigneous kids who love to sing, act, tell stories - or all three.

With the aim of inspiring confidence, leadership and excellence, Short Black Opera’s Artistic Director Deborah Cheetham AO, works with local Indigenous students in grades four to six in a week of intense workshops.

Students will work with Ms Cheetham, (a Yorta Yorta soprano, composer and educator) singing, story telling, learning stagecraft and song writing using traditional languages.

They will then present a Short Black Opera at Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre on Friday 28 October at 11am and 12pm, including performing a song co-written with Deborah.

Short Black Opera for Kids delivers children’s workshops in regional centres around Australia.

This residency is co-produced with the Living Culture Together Project and Multicultural Arts Victoria, to build understanding and respect for Indigenous culture and all cultures in Benalla.

Free to attend, bookings are essential by phoning the Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre.
