Wangaratta & the Warby Ranges

The home town of gold medal-winning cyclists Glenn Clark and Dean Woods, Wangaratta boasts an enthusiastic local cycling culture along with a bevy of nearby bush tracks, rail trails and on-road courses. Whether you're after wineries, bakeries, breweries or historic towns, exhilarating mountain bike rides or farm gate escapades, Wangaratta has it all within easy reach.

Recreational rides
Set up camp in Wangaratta and use it as a base to explore the surrounding region by bike. Peddle out with the family and retrace the horse riding trails of the famous bushranger, Ned Kelly. Explore the Brewery Trail and finish the ride with a well-deserved ale at the Black Dog Brewery. Alternatively, pick up some gourmet cheeses and local delights on a ride to Milawa along the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail. 

The 107-kilometre Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail kicks off in Wangaratta and follows the old railway track through changing landscapes from Wangaratta to Bright, with an optional loop out to Beechworth. Ride just certain sections or try out some of the scenic side rides. Bikes are available for hire in Wangaratta and there are services to pick up tired rider along the route.

Cross country

Roadside
A popular spot for local riders, the Glenrowan Cycle Trail is a 51-kilometre road loop around the Warby Ranges offering steep climbs and undulating terrain through beautiful winegrowing territory. Feeling social? For those wanting to join an organised ride, the local Bicycle Users' Group, or BUGs as they're known, welcome visitors on regular rides throughout the month.
