Overview

Recreational riding

Why hurry when you're on holiday? The High Country has plenty to offer those that aren't chasing the hi-octane thrills of mountain bike trails, road races and alpine ascents. Instead, take your time, revel in stunning mountain scenery and enjoy the good life along the way. Lovingly prepared cuisine, crisp cool climate wines, farm fresh produce, renowned cheeses and rich local histories – it's all right here in the High Country.

On the rails

Relax and get back to nature on a slow ride down one of the region's many picturesque rail trails. Travel through Ned Kelly country and on past the historic streetscapes of Beechworth on the Murray to Mountains Rail Trail. Spend a day riding around Lake Hume on the High Country Rail Trail or get up close to kangaroos, echidnas and native birds on the Great Victorian Rail Trail.

Treat the senses

Choose from the long list of Pedal to Produce trails criss-crossing the region, from Mansfield, Milawa and Kiewa Valley to Gapstead, Whitfield and Bright. Visit quaint villages and sample fruit and veges picked fresh from the farm, load up your basket with organic honey, jams and cheeses, and then round out the day with dinner at one of many renowned local wineries.
