A lot has changed at Katherine Place over the last few years. What was just another drab, grey laneway down the 'New York' end of Melbourne's CBD now has the lunchtime foodies and green thumbs all a twitter. The Archway, a food precinct on the corner of Flinders Lane and Katherine Place is kicking goals and winning over the locals. Dip under the archway and take your pick of bagels, pastries, organic juice and fine coffee. Alternatively, pull up a pew and tuck into Indian street food or those magical xiao long bao dumplings.

Not content to just keep the downtown hordes happy and well fed, Katherine Place is set to blaze the trail for the City of Melbourne's Green Laneways campaign. One of five pilot precincts chosen for the project, Katherine Place will soon boast an ivy covered archway, planter boxes, trees and plants hanging from above.
