Mix the best bits of a dynamic inner-city neighbourhood with a village vibe and you get Yarraville, just 10 kilometres from Melbourne's CBD but a world away when it comes to pace and atmosphere.

Whiling away a weekend in Yarraville

Start a Saturday morning wandering through the relaxed monthly farmers market in the beautiful, historic Yarraville Gardens. When the urge for a coffee hits, head to one of the charming, uniformly excellent cafes housed in the beautifully refurbished Edwardian and Victorian shopfronts around the nexus of Anderson and Ballarat streets.

Maintain the unhurried Yarraville pace and take a relaxed stroll through bookshops, boutiques and gift stores, all exuding a distinctly local vibe. Keep your eye out for artisan wares, jewellery and gourmet food and wine.

Around the sun

Don't miss the beautifully restored Art Deco Sun Theatre, opened in 1938 and a modern-day icon of Melbourne's film community. Catch cult films, classics and recent releases.

Yarraville nights

When the sun begins to go down, settle in for cocktails or tapas in a welcoming local bar or pub. Browse the gig guide and see what's on at the Yarraville Club, or try your luck and be rewarded with comedy, local music, or a big name artist playing deep into the night.

Festival fun

Get along to Yarraville in early February and celebrate the community's boundless creativity. Music, film, comedy, performance art and local makers are all part of the show, plus the neighbourhood's finest food.

How to get there

By train, catch the Werribee line from Flinders Street or Southern Cross stations. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes.

By car, Yarraville is 15 minutes from the CBD via the West Gate Freeway. Take the Williamstown Road exit.
