After more than 30 years in advertising studios of major agencies, William White has been liberated.

William is no longer tied to the ‘Client Brief’. He now allows himself the freedom to interpret and transform mundane objects and events into pieces that display his unique humour and gravitas in equal measure.

William returns to fortyfivedownstairs to present his first solo exhibition, It’s Not A Library. This exhibition of mixed media artworks and prints is inspired by childhood memories of wandering about the city and stopping in to secondhand stores and ‘crummy bookshops’.

The work is an evolution of the concepts and style shown in his 2016 group exhibition at fortyfivedownstairs. For this show the emphasis has been more on the use on artisanal coloured pencils, inks and other traditional media, as well as digital photography.

William White was a founding member of the legendary and original alternative band Rock Granite and the Profiles and recently exhibited at Brightspace alongside other members and associates of the early 1970s underground rock group.
