Both the annual Bloomsday in Melbourne Seminar and dinner will this year be held at Mamma Vittoria's Restaurant, 343 Smith Street, Fitzroy, in a glamorous and atmospheric upstairs function room. The Bloomsday seminar and dinner are designed to articulate with one another and with the Bloomsday performance of 'Getting Up James Joyce's Nose' which will take place at Melba Spiegeltent, 35 Johnston Street Collingwood, just a short walk down the hill, at 8.00pm, after the dinner. The seminar will be chaired by Barry Jones OA, and feature Dr. Steve Carey and Associate Professor Frances Devlin-Glass talking about how Joyce meticulously and playfully deploys the Cinderella of the senses, smell, to a variety of iconoclastic purposes. Mamma Vittoria’s will serve a delectable two-course Italian meal ($48.00, drinks at bar prices). There will be a special event, to honour Bloomsday's first Patron and Barry Jones, Joyce-advocate among his many accomplishments, is the after-dinner speaker. You can book separately or together, but need to do so via Bloomsday's booking site. For more information please go to the website.
