An epic symphony of song brings British mezzo-soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers, and Australia’s very own Stuart Skelton together with Sir Andrew Davis and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for one of the finest symphonic fusions of east and west – Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth).

Taking inspiration from a German adaptation of a volume of ancient Chinese poetry entitled The Chinese Flute, this work of six songs addresses themes of life, death and the cycle of nature, in an impressively sonorous blend of Chinese and western outlooks. Described by legendary conductor, Leonard Bernstein as Mahler’s ‘greatest symphony’, explore the light and the dark with the MSO in one of Mahler’s final master works.

Schubert’s Symphony No.8 Unfinished is an equally personal and intimate experience, with its two-movements much loved by so many. Fall into an intriguingly beautiful dreamscape of ghostly figures, expansive melodies and blissful harmonies.
