In this third concert of the Mozart Festival, the MSO and conductor Richard Egarr plumb the emotional depths of three of Mozart’s final works the Overture to the opera La clemenza di Tito, his Clarinet Concerto featuring MSO Principal Clarinettist David Thomas and his hauntingly beautiful, unfinished Requiem, featuring the MSO Chorus.

In his final year, Mozart was reportedly experiencing bouts of paranoia, believing he was being slowly poisoned. History and literature have embellished these rumours to entertain fanciful scenarios and conspiracy theories, however the more likely consensus view is that Mozart was suffering from rheumatic fever (or similar) until it eventually claimed him in late 1791 – an end not befitting of a man who gave the musical world so much in his short life.

Discover more about the life and times of the prolific composer, as the MSO presents the works of Mozart.
