Swimming

Melbourne's location on Port Phillip Bay, along with its many public pools and recreation centres, means there are endless opportunities for swimming all year round.

Beachside summers

There are many popular beaches all around the bay, including Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Middle Park, St Kilda, Elwood, Hampton, Brighton, Sandringham, and Williamstown. These main beaches are all manned by lifesavers on weekends and public holidays during the summer months from November to March.

Poolside year-round
If you like swimming but not sand, join locals and visitors alike at one of Melbourne's numerous swimming pools. You'll find the right pool for your aquatic needs among the city's indoor and outdoor pools with lap lanes, leisure areas, slides, diving boards, kiddie pools and more. Many of them are heated so you can make a splash any time of year.

Check out the public pools in your local area and dip your toe in at some of Melbourne's favourite swimming holes.
