Souvenirs & duty free shopping

Whether it's local artworks or traditional souvenirs, you'll want to leave Melbourne with more than just memories.

Pick up a plush platypus at a Swanston Street souvenir shop, and choose from cheap and cheerful and locally made at Queen Victoria, St Kilda Esplanade and Arts Centre markets.

Collect stylish Melbournalia, including prints, homewares and accessories, from Melbourne boutiques Melbourne Style and The Melbourne Shop, or take home sweet-smelling souvenirs from Aesop Flinders Lane.

Pick up local designs at Rose Street Artists Market, and gallery-inspired gifts from the NGV shop, or for authentic Indigenous art and craft, visit the Koorie Heritage Trust.

Duty free

Visit the city's many duty free stores for tax-free goods during your stay, or make a list and collect your parcels at the airport.

Tax free zones

Select from a wide range of products at tax-free prices once you pass through customs at Melbourne Airport. Shopping in the GST-free zone means you don't need to collect receipts or complete paperwork before your flight. There's also no minimum spend requirement.

Tax refunds for tourists

A Tourist Refund Office is located at Melbourne Airport if you require a tax refund on products you've already bought. You can receive your refund here, provided that you have spent at least AUD$300 in one store, no earlier than 30 days before your departure.

For more information on the Tourist Refund Scheme, visit the Australian Customs website
