Frankston

Enter the Mornington Peninsula at Frankston, but don't pass through until you've exhausted the city's arts scene, historic homes, entertaining events and beachfront activities.

Make the most of Frankston's metropolitan facilities. Snap up bargains at the substantial shopping precinct and gorge on fine and modern arts at the Frankston Arts Centre, and the McClelland Gallery+Sculpture Park.

Homesteads and gardens
Seek out the views over northern Port Phillip Bay from the lookout at Olivers Hill, the scenic high point of the city.

Discover the Ballam Park French farmhouse, the 1855 home of the Liardet family, and the National Trust-listed Mulberry Hill, former residence of Joan Lindsay, author of Picnic at Hanging Rock.

Identify native plants and spot local fauna at George Pentland Botanic Gardens and Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve.

Beach stop
Enjoy the seaside ambience along the Frankston foreshore boardwalk, Landmark Bridge and pier. Grab a bite to eat from a beachfront restaurant or enjoy a picnic on the foreshore's continuous stretch of sand.

See the foreshore transformed every Boxing Day, when teams of international artists arrive to carve 3,500 tonnes of sand to amazingly life-like creations. The giant sculptures stick around until April, and are supplemented by a host of sandy activities for the whole family.
