Polperro Dolphin and Seal Swims

Discover the natural history of Port Phillips' amazingly intricate yet fragile ecosystems that thrive in these southern reaches. Schools groups and others are welcome. Special interest groups bookings are hosted by Polperro's specialists staff and qualified eco-guides.

The area is surrounded by Marine National Parks and Sanctuaries abutting the protected waters of the bay and along the wild coast of Bass Strait.

The area is the site of Victoria's first settlement. Rich in history and best seen from sea, view Port Phillip Bay just as the first white settlers and subsequent migrations of people following the war years. See this beautiful area just as they did entering the still waters of the bay coming in through the infamous rip and turbulent waters of the Bass Strait.

Aboriginal settlement over thousands of years has left its gentle reminders along the coastlines of National Parks.

Later the two world wars saw a network of protective fortifications both on-shore and at sea. Self guided and hosted tours are available.

Swimming with dolphins is a rare and magical experience, so who better to help you connect with these magnificent creatures than the people who have been making the introductions in Port Phillip Bay the longest, Polperro Dolphin Swims.

The Muir family established Polperro Dolphin Swims in 1986. Named after their classic, lovingly maintained boat, the multi-award winning Polperro has led the bay in research and environmentally responsible dolphin and seal tourism. These wildly exciting yet gentle interactions attract visitors from all over the world.

The crew's careful training and supervision of passengers ensures swimmer safety. Polperro departs from Sorrento pier twice daily from October to May. Passenger numbers are strictly limited so everyone has ample opportunity to get wet, or watch dolphins at play from the deck. Reef and seal swims are often part of Polperro trips as well. These are also revelatory experiences, even for most locals, as the bay's rich aquatic life is a surprisingly well-kept secret.

All gear, including wetsuits and snorkels are provided along with change areas below deck. On chilly days, Polperro saloon cabin is warmly welcoming, as is the complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and delicious scones, freshly baked on board by the crew.
