Circa 1936 is located on the tree lined main street of Corowa, the birthplace of Australian Federation, and housed within the historic art deco environs of the former Rural Bank of NSW.

While the bank vault no longer protects the riches that were reaped from the sheep and wheat harvests, Circa 1936 does uphold and protect the rich and vibrant story of almost a century in the life of a typical Australian rural town and the stunning architectural features of its heritage building.

As you enter the doors of Circa 1936, the stunning pressed metal ceilings and art deco features are only overshadowed by the smiles and warmth of the greeting from the Circa staff. Whether it is sitting in the The Lounge beside the bank vault that now serves as a retail outlet, or enjoying a glass of wine in the bar that now occupies the bank manager's office, you can imagine the dreams, aspirations, apprehension and heartbreak that the walls have witnessed as customers went about their daily finances.

These same walls are no longer witness to the anxiety caused by the pound or the dollar, but to a relaxed and refined atmosphere and features of a luxury hotel: design furniture and stunning art pieces, freshly baked cakes and desserts, coffee aromas, plump feather pillows on crisp linen, quality amenities and most importantly genuine hospitality and efficient service.

North Suite

Apart from the luxurious super king size bed, it is the three metre high pressed metal ceiling that dominates this 54 square meter suite. With 180 degree views of historic Corowa through white shuttered windows, this light filled space beckons guests to relax and read on the Le Corbusier day bed; relax and soak in the bathtub while contemplating the beauty of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed stained glass window, before relaxing some more over evening canapés in The Lounge. If all that relaxing could not possibly be enough, top it off with a relaxation massage in the spa on the ground floor.

South Suite

The three room, 50 square meter South Suite promotes the concept of 'spaces' - private space, shared space and pamper space. Entertain in the lounge, slumber in the bedroom or pamper yourself in the 18 square meter bathroom that features art deco lighting and Circa 1936's signature photographic art works. Whether it is in the walk through rain shower that allows panoramic views of majestic Murray River gums or relaxing in the high back, white and black bathtub set with your 'Bath Bar' amenities selection, you will be immersed in an environment of luxury as you take in the stunning simplicity of the 1.2 metre, circular stained glass window.

West Suite

Overlooking the passing parade of the tree lined main street, Circa 1936's largest suite also features a huge 20 square meter bathroom with an oversize bathtub and French doors leading onto the spacious private balcony. With the full features of the art deco architecture on display, this suite allows guests to truly enjoy the seasons with the option of opening the French doors to allow a cooling breeze in the summer, or in the cooler months, staying cosy in front of the flickering flames of the fire as the sunshine filters softly through the shuttered windows. After a memorable day and you are preparing to turn in, enjoy your selection from the sleep inducing nightcap menu.

Cancellation and booking policy

Children Policy: Circa 1936's rooms were not designed with children in mind, one bed only, a staircase and lots of breakables. However, Management do understand the challenges of travelling with children and how many hotels charge high prices for children, while providing little more than a set of sheets on a pretend bed. Should you decide to bring along a young child or infant and they are not old enough to have a room of their own, Management will do their best, within the constraints of the space and facilities to assist you. The policy therefore is that there is no extra charge for a small child, when sharing a room with their parents in the existing bedding of one super king size bed. In the case of the North Suite which has a day bed suitable for children, the day bed will be prepared for sleeping at evening turn down, at no additional charge. Management ask that your children also respect the tranquillity of the hotel and privacy of other guests.Payment Policy: One night's accommodation is payable to confirm booking. The credit card supplied at booking may or may not be charged immediately, but by accepting this confirmation, Circa 1936 is entitled to charge the agreed deposit at any time prior to arrival.Bookings for Peak periods: Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive: Christmas Eve until New Years Day inclusive: All NSW and Victorian Public Holidays on the night before and night of must be paid in full at time of booking.Cancellation Policy: Bookings cancelled more than 24 hours prior to 1:00pm on arrival date may be rebooked for a single future booking without loss of deposit. Should that subsequent booking be cancelled for any reason the total deposit will be forfeited. For Peak Periods as listed above, the same policy applies, but with a seven day notice period applying instead of 24 hours. Bookings cancelled less than 24 hours prior to arrival or a non-arrival of guests, will incur full forfeiture of the booking deposit. Consideration may be given for flexibility of this policy due to exceptional circumstances at the discretion of management.
