Soundscapes explores the idea of another dimension within the traditional landscape. A soundscape can be defined as the unique auditory environment that surrounds a listener and is intimately identifiable with notions of place. A soft breeze through fallen leaves, birdsong, the crunch of footsteps in frost-bitten grass and the murmur of a stream all evoke a time and a particularity of experience. The works in this exhibition see Abi Thompson break away from working with the landscape in a silent and introspective manner. She sees these works as a return to plein air, where she has used multiple media and immersion in the landscape to alert all the senses. The exhibition runs from September 1 to 30 at Arts Space Wodonga.
