The cemetery holds the graves of 250 German civilian internees and Prisoners of War who died in Australia during the World Wars. The remains of each individual were brought from cemeteries across Australia to be interred in one final resting place.

Every grave is marked by a bronze plaque with the deceased's name and date of death. The iron cross signifies the grave of a prisoner-of-war and the Latin cross that of a civilian internee.
