Warm and rustic, the Piggery Café is unsurprisingly housed in a restored piggery and stables at Burnham Beeches, an Art Moderne mansion and estate in the Dandenong Ranges. The cafe serves sophisticated comfort food with sustainability slant. Produce is carefully sourced: free-range pork, line-caught seafood, Five Senses Coffee, veggies from the estate garden. Add Shannon Bennett for culinary clout and you have really got something to snout about.The Piggery serves up breakfast (eggs, bacon and all the trimmings), lunch (lobster rolls, cheese and charcuterie plates) and afternoon tea (with Prosecco) every day. Take a seat outside and take in the views of the 23-hectare estate with bocce, croquet and lawn bowls greens, a 500-tree trufferie and an emu enclosure (for eggs). Home also to Burnham Bakery, Burnham Beeches is slated to become Australia's first six-star luxury retreat. This little piggery is hot to trotter.
