Don't wait until spring to experience the atmosphere of a good race meet. Regional Victoria hosts racing events all year round with turf clubs in many country towns. Head to Daylesford and the Macedon Ranges in January for New Year's Day and Australia Day races at Hanging Rock or see the Werribee Cup, part of the country cups circuit.
In cooler months, the Grampians hosts flagship country race meets the Stawell Gold Cup, Mount Avoca ANZAC Day races and, later in the year, the Gunbower Gold. Several north-west towns host regular monthly races in winter too.
Of course, spring racing in Victoria gets plenty of attention with loads of race days in and around Melbourne giving you occasion to wear your favourite frocks. The Bendigo Cup is central Victoria's social sporting event of the year and runs as a Melbourne Cup qualifier.
If you're in country Victoria on the first Tuesday of November, watch the Melbourne Cup race at one of many racing clubs across the state that hold special Melbourne Cup Day functions - with local races, entertainment, fashions on the field and big screens to watch the race.
