"Experience the Gift" Come and discover the magic of one of the world's most famous and prestigious footraces. The history and romance of the Australia Post Stawell Gift is entrenched in Australian folklore. The Stawell Gift has been held in all but two years since 1878 and has developed into one of the most esteemed footraces in Australia and the world. Competitors in the Australia Post Stawell Gift 120 metre footrace are handicapped according to form. This advantage allows the local runner to go hammer and tongs with the best in the world and in many cases, the local wins. Held every Easter in the small town of Stawell, three hours west of Melbourne, the Gift started 130 years ago as an athletics competition between miners in the Victorian goldfields. Today, the Gift attracts the cream of local and international athletes who compete for the largest professional prize in the world.
