The historical collection (Circa 1867 - 1969) is housed in the former Police Station and Cell complex, comprising an extensive quantity of textiles, books, photography and documents, wooden, leather and metal objects and river boat, rail, economic and family memorabilia and objects, much of which dates from the earlier portion of the above era and portrays much of the lifestyle of our early residents. The museum is staffed by volunteers and open to the public 11am till 3pm, seven days per week, except Christmas Day & Good Friday. Groups are welcome and a guide to the collection is available by appointment Several of our members are very experienced researchers, addressing inquiries for research from the general public, and indexing local newspapers from C1850 on a day to day basis. Research fee is $20 for first inquiry, $20 per hour thereafter. With over 3500 items fully catalogued, another 1550 partially catalogued from our collection there are many items of interest. We recently completed re-housing and conservation program for the extensive textile collection, which dates back to 1850’s and is now on exhibition to the public as well as a pictorial exhibition of River boat Wrecks along the Murray River in the local district which had not been documented for the public prior to this. It can be seen along with other items from the river boat days, settlement of the area, items relating to the coming of rail, logging the forests and much more. The museum contains Information and photos relating to the pioneer residents and old buildings in the town. These items provide useful research material and provides in depth information which is not available elsewhere, to those needing readily available and accessible history, much of which we believe is unique to the district |
