| Nestled at the rear of Tusk Cafe in Windsor, Back Bar is much more than just a mere afterthought. This sweet salonette is filled with velvet sofas, ornate mirrors, florid carpet and chandeliers. It almost feels as though the host has cleverly raided a wealthy Edwardian parlour, as well as a treasure trove from the 1940s. The theme of vintage elegance extends onwards, to the flocked wallpaper, delicate old lampshades and the glowing open fire. Glammed-up socialites and local regulars lounge around in small clusters, clinking glasses, chatting and pouring over the list of naughty cocktails and harmless mocktails. The cocktail range can be somewhat overwhelming. After all, there are more than 40 concoctions to choose from and it can sometimes be difficult to know where to start. To cut through the confusion, begin with the famed Bar Gorgeous drink. It blends Frangelico together with sweet peach schnapps and fresh mango pulp. Then move onto The Parisian (Frangelico, Cointreau, Kahlua, Baileys and Chambord), or perhaps a glass of Pink Bits (fresh strawberries, Cointreau, Drambuie, peach schnapps, lime and grapefruit juice). If hunger strikes, turn to a gourmet pizza topped with pumpkin and feta or eggplant and pesto. |
