| It’s the backdrop in more than a few wedding photos but most blushing brides would probably be unaware of its history. The Conservatory Fountain (a.k.a Boy with Serpent and Ornamental Fountain) originally adorned the corner of Victoria and Russell Streets until an unfortunate encounter with a motorist prompted its relocation to the Fitzroy Gardens. Originally used as a drinking fountain in the early 1900s, the cast-iron and granite structure now has a pond for protection as it stands outside the Conservatory – itself an important site as home to spectacular year-round floral displays.
