A mainstay of Melbourne's Chinatown, The Empress impresses with its Cantonese-style dishes. Help is happily given to those who wish to delve into the more unusual items on the menu. There are some pleasant surprises at this stayer of the Melbourne Chinatown scene, such as the sang choy bao filled with shark's fin, crab and scrambled egg. All the regular items you'd expect of a Chinese restaurant are on the menu but specials are usually more tantalising and could include steamed prawns stuffed with seafood mousse.
