Art galleries – Goldfields
The Goldfields region is home to some of Victoria’s finest regional galleries. The Art Gallery of Ballarat is the proud owner of the area’s most recognised symbol, the Eureka Flag, and houses the oldest and largest public art collection in regional Australia. Bendigo Art Gallery, Victoria’s largest regional gallery, has one of the best European painting and decorative arts collections in Australia. A few kilometres south, Castlemaine Art Gallery and Historical Museum contains a AU$14 million collection featuring works by famous Australian artists such as Tom Roberts, Frederick McCubbin, Arthur Streeton and E. Phillips Fox.
The region is also home to a very strong arts community – visit the many private galleries to see works by local artists working in all media.
