Declared a town in 1863, Seymour is situated on the banks of the Goulburn River and offers attractions ranging from military and railway sites to parks, art galleries and wineries. The town is also a service centre for the nearby Puckapunyal army training grounds. In the 1940s Seymour’s Royal Hotel, then called Moody’s Hotel, came to prominence with its depiction in artist Russell Drysdale’s painting The Cricketers.
