Art galleries Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges
The Yarra Valley and surrounding area has been a source of inspiration for artists for over 100 years. The famous Heidelberg School set up camp in the area in the late nineteenth century to paint the surrounding landscape with a vision not unlike that of the French Impressionists.
Montsalvat is Australia’s oldest artists’ colony and is renowned for its buildings that are classic examples of French provincial architecture. Today it plays host to some of the region’s major art exhibitions. For wonderful wine, art and architecture to match, visit TarraWarra Estate and the adjoining TarraWarra Museum of Modern Art set on a terraced hillside near Healesville.
View the work of local contemporary artists in studios, open spaces and galleries in the Dandenong Ranges, including the Burrinja Gallery and the William Ricketts Sanctuary.
