Goulburn Valley wine region
The Goulburn Valley is a huge area stretching from Seymour in central Victoria up to Echuca on the Murray River.
Abundant water, gentle weather and sandy soils have enabled the Goulburn Valley, and the sub-region of Nagambie Lakes in particular, to consistently produce wine since the 1860s. Just across the Murray River, you will find the emerging NSW wine region of Perricoota.
Tahbilk Winery & Vineyard, one of the oldest in the country, pioneered the area’s affinity with Rhône varietals such as marsanne, shiraz and rousanne. Buttery rich chardonnay is also a regional strength.
As well as vineyards, prolific orchards grow apples, pears, peaches and other stone fruits, so watch out for the farm gate sales.
