About the Macedon Ranges wine region

Macedon wine region

Macedon Ranges’ rustic cellar doors, tucked within secret gardens, present a truly boutique experience. Its cool to cold climate produces wines of exceptional quality in limited production, and sparkling wines that benchmark well against the best of France.

Less than an hour’s drive from Melbourne, Macedon Ranges is a cool, lush area of elevated plains, volcanic soils, rocky outcrops, misty valleys and dark, mysterious bush.   Stunning natural beauty aside, this region is home to some of Australia’s finest boutique winemakers and several outstanding restaurants – particularly in the delightful spa town of Daylesford.

The high altitude and cool climate of the Macedon Ranges, which experiences regular winter snowfalls, lends itself beautifully to chardonnay and pinot noir grapes. The region is renowned for its sparkling wine, but there is also award-winning riesling, cabernet sauvignon, and even shiraz, all produced in small-scale, family-owned wineries where cosy cellar doors with well-worn timber floors are extensions of the corrugated iron shed.

Expect a warm welcome and a more intimate tasting experience.
